The Colophon association was created in 1994. It is a Belgian non-profit-making-organization that focuses its activities on development education and information. Its actions address mainly – although not exclusively – a French-speaking audience, to make it alive to the problems linked to cooperation, development and problems of solidarity , through adapted and specific productions.

Its fundamental ambition is to participate in the making of a better world, more dignified and fair for all, through a better understanding of the Other.  Colophon and its team devote a particular attention to the economically rampaged, abandoned or subjugated. Together with partners, or independentally, the association has been developing different lines of tools and media meant to inform public opinion. Among others is this collection of audio CDs, the Collection de musiques populaires du monde with its documented supplements (in French) on internet, in the « e-doc » pages.

The collection wants to make the public more familiar with little-known  portions of the amazing cultural riches of some parts of the world. By publishing cultural treasures that are too often unknown, or have been altered to meet materialistic and consumerist requirements, we want to participate in the preservation of the immaterial patrimonies that are now threatened by  the economical disorder.
Together with this publishing activity, the association also created a
law-workshop that acts for the acknowledgement of collective rights regarding  non-material patrimonies.

In addition to its editorial activities, the association organizes reflections and experiments to find new ways in development education through culture.
